Inspired by nineteenth-century French toile de Jouy and the narrative tradition of the Bayeux Tapestry, the Murray River Collection reimagines scenes of life along the river. Paddle steamers, bustling wharves and a Cobb & Co. coach unfold alongside riverside homesteads, an old railway bridge and quiet fishing scenes, framed by native birds and the Murray’s iconic river gums.

With a romantic sensibility that recalls the Belle Époque, the composition offers glimpses of a bygone Australia and the quiet poetry of everyday life.
